Ogres came after Elven Souls like moth drawn to a flame.

After the long war against Humans, I became the only Elf left in the Forest of the Great Tree. I was in despair, and all I could do for my lost people was to console their wandering souls.

It took me a long time to prepare the ritual, and I finally started the first ritual today. Soul Fruits shone with the Song of the Great Tree, and Wolpertingers collected Elven Souls to send them to the sky one by one.

That's when Ogres from the deep forest came out. They were attracted to the shimmering Elven Souls and began to steal them. Me and Wolpertingers were dumbfounded by these uninvited guests.

I climbed down from the Great Tree and approached Ogres to do something about it. Then I saw a horrible scene. Among the Ogres who were busy stealing Elven Souls, an Ogre who appeared to be their leader, was slaughtering Humans.

Such extreme hostility against Humans. I recognized the face. It was Khanzaizin. The Ogre that my best friend Lirel took in.

Khanzaizin was a sole survivor from a clan wiped out by Humans, and Lirel took him in just as he did with other war orphans. Lirel gave him a name and took care of him until he was fully grown.

So I tried to persuade Khanzaizin so that he would go away with his other Ogre friends. I thought he would leave in peace if he knew one of the souls in the forest was Lirel's.

What I overlooked was that it has been a hundred years since I last saw him. He was not the boy I remembered. When I tried to talk to him, he didn't seem to remember Lirel at all. He was roaring fiercely. He was just a wild Ogre, filled with a rage against Humans.

So Ogres stayed until the end of the ritual, and I could send only a few number of souls to the sky. I guess I will need eternity to free all the souls in the forest.
